Each year since 1999, The Central College Church Foundation has awarded at least one scholarship of $1,000 to a high school senior, who is a member of our church. The scholarship is a memorial to Peter Barrett, who passed away in 1998 from complications of Juvenile Diabetes during his freshman year at Bowling Green State University.
Applications are reviewed to determine the awards based on personal essays, resumes, high school transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a church member as well as from one of their high school teachers or administrators. The applications are reviewed by a committee of church members.
The stipends are awarded from the Central College Church Foundation and are funded by contributions designated by family, friends and church members who not only want to honor Peter’s memory, but those who want to recognize the youth of our congregation. Over $30,000 has been awarded in the past 20 years from this fund.
This year, there are two graduating high school seniors who were recognized during the 9:30 church service in the sanctuary on Sunday, May 12. The recipients of the 2019 $1,000 scholarships are:
Ben Schwieger (Left)
Graduated from Olentangy Liberty High School. Ben Son of Doug and Lynn Schweiger, and will be attending
Olivia Voorhies (Right)
Graduated from Westerville North High School. Olivia is the daughter of Jeff and Heather Voorhies and will attend The Ohio State University.
Please congratulate our recipients as well as all of the graduating seniors in the class of 2019. For anyone interested in supporting this scholarship program, contributions should be directed to the Central College Church Foundation with a notation designating the Peter R. Barrett Memorial scholarship fund.
